PROJECT ACCUMULATE;  HIGHER LEVELS OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AND INCREASED BATTERY EFFICIENCY

Worldwide the switch from petrol to electric mobility is happening. It makes sense and will impact positively on the environment, especially in our busy cities. Although electric mobility is more sustainable than using fossil fuels BREKR feels we can take it a step further., Brekr is actively collaborating with partners who conscientiously make an effort to reduce environmental impact and is working towards  making high-quality batteries more affordable. The project group is financially supported by the European Regional Development Fund.

THE QUESTION

HOW DO WE PRODUCE A BATTERY FOR OVERHAUL, RE-USE AND RECYCLING?

Certain raw materials used in a battery are expensive and environmentally harmful. If these materials can be used for a longer period of time as well as in multiple batteries, we stand to gain efficiencies. Brekr’s predominant goal, and the key reason for its involvement in the Accumulate project, is to achieve environmental sustainability by developing a long life battery; one which can be used in our electric moped over an extended period due to its ability to be overhauled and reused. When the battery is no longer good enough for use in our product we will ensure it is suitable for use in other products. This effectively means lower costs for customers by extending battery life. Innovation, cost reduction and environmental benefits go hand in hand.

SAFETY

Dutch legislation sets high standards for battery storage and is subject to change. When our  stocks increase the key question becomes; how do we ensure safe storage? The safety of our employees and protection of the environment are a constant point of attention and are part of our development plan.

COLLABORATING PARTIES IN THE ACCUMULATEPROJECT

Over the next three years, Brekr will work together with the University of Twente, the Twente Safety Region, Contour Advanced Systems, DNV GL Netherlands, Hencon Holding and Van Raam. The members bring their expertise, knowledge, R&D strength and practical experience to achieve the objectives. We are supported by the European Regional Development Fund.
